Litha – When Nature Shines: Jewelry for the Summer Solstice

June 21st marks the summer solstice – the longest day of the year. The sun is at its highest point, the days are bright and warm, and nature reveals itself in all its glory.

In many ancient cultures, this date was celebrated as a turning point, a festival of light and life.

Celebrating Litha: Jewelry Made from Real Leaves for the Summer Solstice

This time of year touches me anew every year. I walk through the meadows, see the lush green of the leaves, feel the sun on my skin, and am grateful for all the life around me.

It's precisely this power, this moment of abundance, that I capture in my jewelry made from real leaves.

What is Litha?

Litha originates from the Old Germanic Wheel of the Year. It is the solar festival that marks the peak of summer – even if the calendar is only just heralding the beginning of summer.

In earlier times, bonfires were lit, herbs gathered, and flower wreaths woven during Litha. People danced, sang, thanked the sun, and asked for blessings for the coming harvest season.

Even today, many people celebrate the summer solstice – sometimes very consciously in a circle of friends, sometimes quietly alone in nature.

It is a special moment in the year to pause, feel the warmth, and draw new strength.

Leaves – Symbols of Vitality

Leaves symbolize growth, joy of life, and connection to nature. Each individual leaf tells its own story – and carries the energy of its place, its plant, its time within it.

When I select a leaf and craft it in silver or gilded silver, this small natural wonder transforms into a lasting piece of jewelry. A keepsake. A symbol.

Especially during the summer solstice, it makes sense to me to choose a very personal leaf – as a sign of one's own strength, as a companion through the second half of the year, or simply as a small ritual for oneself.

Plants associated with Litha – and living on in my jewelry

Many plants that played a role in ancient Litha customs also appear during my walks – and I have already had the privilege of transforming some of them into jewelry:

Sage – Cleansing and Clarity

Sage was often used as a smudge plant during the summer solstice to clear spaces and thoughts.

In my studio, I craft real sage leaves into bracelets, earrings, and pendants in silver. Powerful, elegant, and full of energy.

Lady's Mantle – Femininity and Protection

Lady's Mantle was considered a medicinal plant and a symbol of femininity. Its leaf shape is unique – soft, round, almost like a small cloak.

I love transforming Lady's Mantle leaves into delicate bracelets – they appear both fragile and strong.

Ginkgo – Resilience and Connection

The Ginkgo is not a typical Litha plant, but for me, it is a strong symbol of life energy. As a symbol of resilience, it fits wonderfully into this season.

I have crafted Ginkgo leaves into pendants and bracelets – they remind us that we are allowed to grow, even if the path is sometimes winding.

Dandelion – New Beginnings and Hope

The dandelion represents the childlike joy of life, letting go, and new paths. The small, serrated leaves are fascinatingly detailed in silver.

Especially during the summer solstice – the moment between light and dark – the dandelion can be a symbol of trust and new beginnings.

Clover – Luck and Abundance

Finding a four-leaf clover is like a gift from nature. Around Litha, when the meadows are in bloom, you might sometimes find them – or they might be given to you.

I have collected clover leaves, crafted them in silver, and made them into personal good luck charms – worn as a bracelet or necklace, they accompany you throughout the year.

Wild Cherry, Rose, Oak, Fern, and more...

Every plant, every leaf has its own message. The wild cherry stands for warmth of heart, the rose for love, the oak for strength, and the fern for connection to nature.

I have collected many of these leaves, carefully processed them, and turned them into unique pieces that you can find in my shop.

Your Personal Solstice Leaf

Perhaps you have a leaf that speaks to you – from your garden, from a walk, from a special place.

You can send me this leaf – and I will create an individual piece of jewelry for you from it. For the summer solstice or simply as a gift to yourself.

Thus, a fleeting moment in nature becomes a lasting companion.

Wear the summer sun on your wrist. Feel the power of plants on your skin. Let your jewelry remind you of what is important to you.

A Small Ritual for the Summer Solstice

If you wish, you can perform a small ritual for the solstice – very simply and quietly:

  • Walk barefoot through the grass.

  • Collect a leaf that speaks to you.

  • Light a candle, close your eyes, and thank nature.

  • Feel what you want to let go of – and what you wish for.

  • Carry your leaf with you – or let it become a piece of jewelry.

Perhaps a sage leaf is among them for you. Or a ginkgo leaf. Or you can send me your very own leaf – I look forward to transforming it into silver.

Let nature speak – in a piece of jewelry that belongs only to you.
