Andrea from Yoga Cuisine | when yoga and food come together!
This interview with Andrea Grabner from Yoga Cuisine is part of an interview series with women who feel as connected to nature as I do. Here, I speak with different women about their connection to nature and life.
Nutrition is a development process | Have fun in the kitchen, get inspired and dare to try new things.
Please introduce yourself and tell us a bit about you and your background? Where do you come from?
I was born in Linz! 😊

What job did you learn?
After music secondary school, I attended the Higher Federal Institute for Fashion and Clothing Technology and graduated with my Matura.
My first job after school was with a tax consultant.

Did you learn to cook or study nutrition?
I learned to cook from my mom. 😉 She's from the Czech Republic, so our menu usually featured hearty home cooking.
In 2016, I completed my training as a certified nutrition coach. I had always loved cooking, but the specialized knowledge, as I said, came later.

You develop wonderful recipes from healthy and natural ingredients. How did you get into that?
Through my more intensive yoga practice, my eating habits changed. After yoga class, I no longer craved roast pork and the like, but began to incorporate healthy foods like legumes and vegetables more and more into my diet. During this time, I tried many new recipes. This stimulated my creativity a lot, so I started developing my own recipes and sharing them on my blog.

How do your recipes come about – where do you get your inspiration from?
I love trying new recipes, and I get my ideas and inspiration from beautiful cooking magazines & books and, of course, from the many food blogs. I could get lost in them. But what I almost never manage to do is cook a recipe from A to Z according to instructions. That's why I can say with a clear conscience that there's a little bit of "Andrea" in all the recipes!
Since the end of 2021, I have become a cookbook author myself. Together with my Dattelbär colleague Betti, I launched a book on HEALTHY SNACKING. My favorite recipe from the book is the delicious Coffee Bars.

What does a "normal" day look like for you?
During the week, I usually start my day with porridge at the advertising agency, where I work full-time.
Exercise is on my schedule every other day; I need it to balance my turbulent work life. I also try to make space for meditation in my daily routine.
Being self-employed and employed at the same time can be demanding. ;)
Although I really enjoy both.

Do you enjoy being in nature?
As often as possible! I love ice bathing, hiking, ski touring, climbing, road cycling, and much more.
Ever since I fulfilled my dream of owning a camping van, I love the simple road trip life in the mountains.

Do you also have a special favorite place or power spot - where do you like to be most?
I have one very close to my home base. I live near the Weikerlsee, and I found my power spot in the floodplain area there.

Do you have a recipe for us that even "inexperienced" people can easily replicate?
I would choose this salad. It nourishes on all levels, and I almost always have the main ingredients at home, as they have a very long shelf life.

Nature, herbs, as well as sustainability and organic are very "trendy" now – why do you think that is?
Because we want to create a good life for the next generation. Paying attention to our ecological footprint is very important to me.
That's why I avoid plastic as much as possible, use regional foods (except for dates 😉), and buy organic to support local farmers.

You can find more of my recipes on my homepage www.yoga-cuisine.at. And I also work with two colleagues, and together we offer workshops and retreats on mindfulness, nutrition, and fermentation. Our homepage is www.mehralsnuressen.at.
